Recently, in hopes of furthering my long-stalled genealogical studies, I had my DNA tested. One of the studies which was returned to me was information on my maternal haplogroup. This genetic detail of our heritage is found in our mitochondria and is passed down strictly from mother to child. My children’s mitochondria are a copy of mine, which is a copy of my mother’s, which was a copy of her mother’s, and so on.
