Cries to the Lord Situation of David (us)
Be merciful to me I am weak
Heal me My bones are in agony
How long, O Lord, must I deal with this My soul is in anguish, too.
David’s a mess; mind, body and soul.
I find verse 6 very relatable: “I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.” (NIV)
Yup. Been there. The memory of such heart pain that causes one to toss and turn, eyes hot with tears all night long is still with me.
It was David’s enemies that brought him to this state; those who fought against him not just in the battlefield, but against him in their words and deeds. His soul struggled against their assaults.
But verse 9 reminds us who cry out to God in the night – We are heard!
The Lord hears our weeping; and he receives our prayer.
This is my takeaway. I don’t pray to a God who ignores me. My cries don’t fall on deaf ears. My prayers are received by the only one who can deliver me mind, body and soul. He hears. And in the midst of my tears I know, He will respond.
